Thanks to the 30+ people who turned up on 19 April to help raise awareness of the campaign across the village. It was amazing to see so many people willing to give up their time, and it felt like just reward that the day happened to be warm and sunny — a great day to be out and about.
The organisation was excellent, with pre-planned routes assigned to residents from each area, and more than 500 leaflets delivered.
The response on the doorstep was overwhelmingly supportive of our campaign. Many residents expressed concern about the impact the development will have on already stretched village resources, as well as the unavoidable environmental damage it will cause. The fact that the development will almost “close the gap” between Hurstpierpoint and Hassocks also troubled a number of residents, many of whom are justifiably proud of the village’s unique character and keen to protect it.
